MY STORY: LEARN MORE ABOUT WHY I DO THIS

My story starts even before I was born.
My family has a severe mental disability that has been passed down consistently through the generations. My mother receives a check from the government because of her mental disabilities. I am the last of 3 brothers from all different fathers.
During my conception there was serious confusion to who was even my father. Cigarettes, drugs, mountain dew and fast food was my mother’s fuel. She told me she stopped crack 3 months before I was born so I wouldn’t have withdraws. I was born via c-section, and my grandparents took me home while she went to a party.
They saved my life.
Years flew by and my grandmother got cancer. She was my rock and my true mother. Cancer took her from us in the most painful way- long and slow. She smoked cigarettes and had serious social anxiety after losing her oldest son to a bicycle vs car accident. The mental disorder she inherited took over her life after this tragic event.
I lived with my father’s parents for a few years until my grandmother was diagnosed with lung cancer. My father’s mother really helped me heal by her words of wisdom and unconditional love. I stuck to her like glue the second I could. Then I was there with my grandmother all the way up until she passed on.
After her death, I felt helpless and useless. I had to do something to help them or change it for those ahead of me. I didn’t want anyone to feel the pain and loss I’ve felt. I didn’t know how or what I could do at the time. I was just a child.
After her death I lived with her husband which at the time was the only father I had a personal relationship with. My father went to prison when I was 4 and got out when I was 15.
At the end of my senior year, I met my wife. I knew I was going to marry her the moment I saw her. She had an interesting relationship with food and her mom was seriously battling obesity. Her mom had breast cancer and beat it one time. It came back 17 years after being cleared as cancer free and took her from us.
I battled IBS my whole life and my own demons. I gained 50 pounds after high school and lost my gallbladder to candida overgrowth. I lost the excess body fat and healed my gut. During this same time my wife had gained 60 pounds as she went through nursing school. We got engaged and she lost the 60 pounds in 30 days to fit into the perfect dress.
All the loss of these mothers, even my own mother choosing drugs over being my mother,  engraved in my heart the purpose of helping mothers the way I couldn’t help those so dear to me. I learned a lot about choice and about the healing process. I am here to help my wife live a health as possible lifestyle and for that to impact my son along with any children to come. Her pregnancy with him was rough with the nausea, vomiting, and surviving the food she could keep down. After we recovered and began to adapt to life as parents I vowed to be who I didn’t have but needed so badly.
